By now, you may have heard that Jen Aniston's marriage to Justin Theroux is over and done. But according to reports, the real shocker here is that the marriage never officially began.
As hundreds of break-up story broke across various entertainment websites, TMZ did some digging and discovered that there was no legal record of a marriage between Jen and Justin. The source also claims that neither Aniston nor Theroux contacted a divorce lawyer.
So, while the couple may have exchanged vows at Jen’s 1965 Bel Air mansion in 2015, it’s all a sham. They sipped champagne, ate cake, and had a party, but none of the paperwork was ever filed. That makes the whole marriage null and void as if it never happened.

With that in mind, read the statement provided by Aniston’s people. Notice the word “divorce” is nowhere to be found:
“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship. Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”
Seems pretty obvious now, doesn’t it? The marriage was just like a Hollywood set—it looks like Paris and sounds like Paris, but it’s not really Paris.
So what would motivate two Hollywood hotshots to balk on filing a marriage license? Well, the most obvious reason is money. Aniston and Theroux were both very rich already. Why bother with a lawyer and a prenup, when you can just not get married to begin with? Pretty savvy, really. Aniston had her Friends fortune, and Theroux had made plenty off of Tropic Thunder and other projects.
The other reason they never made it official could be that the love was never really that red-hot. According to some reports, Theroux was luke-warm on the marriage idea from day one. The pair were often located on separate coasts. Justin would live in New York, and Aniston would stay in California. Maybe his heart wasn’t in it all along, or maybe he knew that Aniston's wasn’t.
Which brings us back to the age-old question: What about Brad? Brad Pitt was Aniston’s first husband. One of the most beautiful dream couples ever, they married (for real) in 2000, and stayed together for five years. Then Angelina Jolie came into the picture and pretty much stole Pitt away. Aniston was devastated and the tabloids hounded her more than ever.
Now that both sides of the dream couple are single once again, will they reunite? That’s hard to say. But be sure, that if Pitt and Aniston are even spotted in the same room together, it will be front page gossip.
